If you wish to maintain your ISO 14001 certification, you will need to upgrade your Environmental Management System to the new edition of the standard and seek certification to it. This means that, after the end of September 2018, an ISO 14001:2004 certificate will no longer be valid. The ISO 14001:2015 transition period is a very important step to demonstrate to a broader range of stakeholders and customers commitment to Quality Management based on continuous performance enhancement.
The most noticeable change to the standard is its new structure. ISO 9001:2015 now follows the same overall structure as other ISO management system standards (known as the High-Level Structure), making it easier for anyone using multiple management systems. Another major difference is the focus on risk-based thinking. While this has always been part of the standard, the new version gives it increased prominence. Since it has been revised to meet the needs of today’s business world, we recommend that you update your quality management system to adapt to the new version. Every organisation is different, so the steps needed to adjust your management system are likely to be unique to your situation.
At Bureau Veritas, we believe that the transition is an incredible opportunity to add value to your organisation, but it should not become too complex or stressful due to the deadlines. Start your transition now thanks to all the information and products available in just one click!
